The Bharatiya Janata Party State unit has recommended to the party’s Central Election Committee the names of candidates for the byelections to the three Assembly constituencies.

The committee is expected to clear the names any time as August 2 is the last date for filing nomination papers. The bypolls will be held on August 21.

While the name of the former MP B.Y. Raghavendra, son of the former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, has been recommended for Shikaripur, MLC Mahantesh Kavatagimath’s name has been proposed for Chikkodi-Sadalga seat. The name of BJP ST Morcha leader Obalesh has been recommended for the Bellary (ST) seat.

The BJP’s the State Core Committee, which held an emergency meeting here on Tuesday, appointed three senior leaders as in-charge for each of the three Assembly seats. BJP State president Pralhad Joshi said Jagadish Shettar would be in-charge for the Chikkodi-Sadalga seat while K.S. Eshwarappa would be in-charge for the Shikaripur seat. R. Ashok would monitor the party’s bypoll preparations for the Bellary seat.
