July 25, 2016 12:29 pm | Updated October 18, 2016 02:13 pm IST - Bidar

Protestors pelted stones at three North Eastern Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NERKTC) buses during the strike called by labour and employee unions of KSRTC and other state transport undertakings on Monday.

The Kalaburgi-Bhalki –Udgir bus was stoned in Bhalki bus stand early morning on Monday. Another one between Bhalki and Bidar was also stoned in the bus stand. NEKRTC officials suspect striking employees damaged them.

NEKRTC sources said a bus belonging to Aurad depot was stoned near Ballari. The Aurad-Bengaluru bus was stopped by protestors early in the morning who hurled stones at it, NEKRTC officials said.

The losses are yet to be estimated.

Bidar bus stand was deserted in the morning barring a few passengers. Two students of private schools who came to the city from a nearby village without knowing about the holiday declared for schools were waiting near the controller’s office. A controller said he had called their parents who were coming on bikes to pick them up.

A woman who was planning to travel to Hyderabad said she would take the afternoon train. Two college youth said they would ask for a ride in a van or lorry going towards Humnabad.

Union leaders have been absent for two days. Most of the drivers or conductors are on strike. Only a few ministerial staff have reported for duty, said a source in the divisional controller’s office.
