A KSRTC bus ran over pedestrians and hit a couple of other vehicles, killing two on the spot and injuring more than 10 in Alur town on Sunday. The brake in the bus had failed as the bus entered Alur town, and the driver lost control over the vehicle. The bus collided with a truck, and ran over two pedestrians. It stopped after hitting the front portion of a house in the town.

The deceased have been identified as Kariyaiah (29) of Ambedkar Nagar in Alur and Srinivas (24) of Kabballi village in Channarayapatna taluk. Driver of KSRTC bus Mohan, conductor Chandrashekhar and another eight to nine people, who were hit by the bus, suffered injuries in the incident. People who were on the main street ran helter-skelter as the bus lost control.

Residents of Alur helped the injured reach the hospital. Later, they staged a protest in the town blaming the KSRTC for the accident.

They said the corporation was allotting only poorly maintained buses for rural service. They also exhibited their anger against Alur-Sakaleshpur MLA H.K.Kumaraswamy stating that he had neglected widening of the road. The protesters burnt tyres and stopped vehicles on the road.

Divisional Controller of KSRTC Kalyan Kumar, Additional Superintendent of Police J.K. Rashmi visited the town and pacified the protesters.
