The driver of the Volvo bus belonging to a private travels involved in an accident near Hoskote on Sunday obtained bail on Monday. Five persons, including a woman five months into her pregnancy and a six-year-old boy, were killed and 28 injured in the accident.
The driver, Venkatappa, who suffered minor injuries, was admitted to MVJ Hospital, but was in police custody. The police produced him before the judicial magistrate at the latter’s residence on Monday.
“Though it was a major accident and Venkatappa has been booked for rash and negligent driving leading to an accident, it is a bailable offence,” the Hoskote police said. Though there is a provision in law to give him bail in the police station itself, considering the gravity of the accident, the police secured his arrest and produced him before the magistrate, the police said. “We are awaiting a report from the Regional Transport Authority to carry out further investigation,” the police said.
Meanwhile, several injured passengers were shifted out of MVJ Hospital to different hospitals in Bangalore.
