Shivamogga MLA K.B. Prasanna Kumar has said that a fair amount of compensation would be paid to owners of buildings that are earmarked for demolition for the purpose of widening the stretch of road that connects Netaji Circle with Gopala Extension in the city.

He was speaking at a public hearing meeting convened here on Sunday to discuss the issue of road widening.

The work of widening the road will commence shortly, he said.

The Shivamogga City Corporation will issue notices in 15 days to the respective building owners. The owners should furnish proper documents to the Corporation to claim compensation. Compensation would be paid as per the prevailing market price, he said.

Filled with potholes

At present, this road is narrow and filled with potholes, because of which residents of Gopala Extension commute via the road that connects Alkola Circle. The residents of Gopala Extension and other localities in the vicinity will benefit from the road widening.

He said that the work would be completed before the commencement of monsoon next year. Commissioner of Shivamogga City Corporation A.R. Ravi said that the road would be widened to 60 feet and the government has released an amount of Rs. 2.8 crore for the purpose. The residents requested three months’ time for demolition of the earmarked buildings. Mayor of the Corporation Khurshida Banu, and Deputy Mayor Rekha Chandrashekhar were present at the meeting.
