The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has said the Union Budget presented on Thursday “goes back on all the promises” made during the election campaign earlier this year by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Foreign capital“The party, which calls itself most patriotic of all political parties, has shown its real face by recklessly throwing open the Indian economy, including defence, to foreign capital,” said G.N. Nagaraj, secretariat member of CPI (M).
Even though the experience of the past few years, particularly in sectors of national importance, has shown that FDI and public private partnership (PPP) model are unsustainable, the NDA government is continuing in the same path, said Mr. Nagaraj.
The lands of the poor peasantry and government land are being “offered on a platter to private and foreign corporates” and there is no emphasis on employment generation, he said.
Resources reducedMr. Nagaraj said budgetary resources for the plan sector and social services had reduced. “The most glaring example of this is the deficit of Rs. 61,000 crore in Special Component Plan and Tribal Sub-Plan,” he said.
