BSR Congress accuses JD(S) of ‘big brother attitude’

Badavara Shramikara Raithara (BSR) Congress has decided to field candidates on its own in all the constituencies for the May 5 Assembly polls, unhappy with what the party leaders called “big brother attitude” of the Janata Dal (Secular) with whom they were negotiating for a seat-sharing arrangement.

BSR Congress may announce the of candidates for the ensuing election to the Legislative Assembly on Friday.

Speaking to The Hindu, Raveendra Reshme geral secretary of the BSR Congress said that, in all probability a list of 30 to 35 candidates for Bellary, Raichur, Yadgir, Bidar, Bijapur, Bagalkot, Gadag and Koppl districts would be released by party president B. Sriramulu on Friday.

Big brother

Talks on seat-sharing did not materialise, as JD S) leaders was firm on fielding candidates, which were being considered as “bastion” of BSR Congress. “We decided to fight the election on our own strength, frustrated with the big brother attitude of JD(S)”, he said.

The party would field candidates even in Baindur and Kapu constituency in Udupi district.

“We are supporting Haladi Srinivasa, who is contesting as Independent candidate from Kundapur,” he disclosed.

Spiking the rumour that Jayalakshmi of Big Boss programme fame who joined the party would be fielded in Honnali against M.P. Renukacharya of the KJP, Mr. Reshme said the party had not decided about fielding her in this election.

He refused to respond to the question on the constituencies selected for fielding actors Rakshita and Pooja Gandhi. “Both of them are our star campaigners, they won’t contest in the election.”
