Heavy rain lashed Shivamogga, Tirthahalli, and Bhadravati taluks for more than two hours on Thursday evening.

The rain brought relief to people from the searing heat. However, a portion of the bridge constructed across the sewage canal at Bapuji Nagar in the city caved in and vehicular movement was affected. Electricity poles came crashing down due to heavy wind, disrupting power supply at Gandhi Nagar and Hosamane localities.

The vehicular movement on Shivamogga-Tirthahalli stretch of National Highway 13 was suspended for a while as trees fell on the road near Mandagadde.
