Brand experiences

Years after the first smartphone arrived in the market, sophisticated mobile experiences remain in development. Further, poor user experiences continue to prevent users from getting past the initial “trial-and-forget” model of 80 per cent of mobile apps, a new annual report by Sapient Nitro, examining key consumer marketing trends and digital technologies' impact on business, notes.

The report, titled Insights 2011, offers recommendations on how companies need to evolve their brand experiences, and takes an in-depth look at the mobile segment. The report is based on interviews with key mobile players and a proprietary scorecard of select technology parameters. It observes that most in-store mobile applications are “disconnected pilots, applications, and mobile sites with low adoption”.

Smarter healthcare

Wipro Infotech, the IT business unit of IT major Wipro, announced the launch of a new version of its Hospital Information Management System (HIMS). Developed by the IT healthcare services division of Wipro, the new version of HIMS caters to the needs of large healthcare providers, government hospitals, clinics and diagnostic centres in emerging markets, a press release from Wipro stated.

It offers clinical, electronic medical records, administrative and inventory functions, thereby enabling increased operational effectiveness, reduction in costs and medical errors, while raising the quality of patient care, the company claims. The new version of this solution, which has been in the market for over five years, is now available in two versions, enterprise and professional. Wipro was recently awarded the Healthcare IT Award by industry body NASSCOM.

Livewire 2011

The International Tech Park Bangalore's (ITPB) annual cultural event, Livewire 2011, saw participation from 20 companies and 450 contestants. In its eighth year, the cultural talent show had activities such as singing, solo and group dance, musical performances, fashion shows and more.

ACS Technologies bagged the ‘Stars of ITPB' award, with its employees finishing first in several competitions.

Thomas Teo, chief executive officer of Ascendas India, which runs ITPB, said: “For eight years in a row, we have been able to provide a platform for our park-ites to showcase their exceptional cultural talent. This also serves to reiterate our tenet of providing a platform for work and play, synonymous with the life at ITPB.”

Better, safer enterprise management

IT security solutions firms McAfee and RSA announced a new joint solution based on their existing technology partnership. This joint solution integrates security data from existing security platforms and enterprise management solutions from the two companies, and offers a better way to leverage business information with security data to gain a deeper understanding of risk and compliance issues, a press release stated.

The technology partnership between McAfee and RSA, which is the security division of EMC, was announced earlier this year.

“Both IT and security organisations are facing challenges today managing a myriad of tools and data that help them protect and keep the business up and running,” said David Walter, senior director of RSA.
