Well-known writer the late Poornachandra Tejaswi never held programmes to formally release his books. On Saturday, his place ‘Niruttara’ – near Mudigere, probably, for the first time, witnessed a book release function. The book released, Nama Naduvina Tejasvi, detailed Tejaswi’s relationship with the common man.

Prasad Raxidi, the author of the book, said, “The book is about how Tejaswi interacted with workers in his estate, residents of the villages around including the popular ‘Biriyani Kariyanna’ – a recurring character in his books, shopkeepers he met regularly or the mechanic he spoke to occasionally.”

Mr. Raxidi, a noted theatre personality, had enjoyed a long-time association with Mr. Tejaswi. In the book, he details his experiences with the writer Tejaswi.

Ms. Rajeshwari, Mr. Tejaswi’s wife, speaking at the function, said that he always perceived developments through the eyes of a commoner and that was the reason why he could get along with any person anywhere.

“Even today, many people and speak about Tejaswi's contribution to society. Unknowingly, Tejaswi has continued to influence people through his works and thoughts,” she said. Poornachandra Tejaswi passed away in 2007.

Writer Aravind Chokkadi, speaking about the book on the occasion, said that as a writer, Tejaswi continued the legacy of Jnanpith awardee Shivaram Karanth. He wished to spend time with the common folk and learn from their lives.

“The best way to judge a person is to see how is as an individual. When it comes to Tejaswi, through this book, one understands that he was highly democratic in his relationship with his employees. He respected the individuality of every person,” Mr. Chokkadi said.

Publisher B.N. Sriram was also present at the programme.

The book has been published by Abhiruchi, a Mysuru-based publication. It is priced at Rs. 60.
