A fire destroyed most of the records kept at the old city corporation office that now houses the Tahsildar office in Belagavi on Saturday.

Fire and emergency services personnel rushed to the spot and fought the fire for nearly an hour. Corporation officials arrived soon, and began wondering what may have been lost.

Police say they are not clear about what caused the blaze. It was in the old record room and did not spread to other wings of the office. Shashidhar Kurer, Corporation Commissioner, said an inquiry would be ordered.
