Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar on Saturday said the Bharatiya Janata Party would release its second list of candidates for the Assembly elections on April 9.
Speaking to reporters after attending the Founders’ Day programme at the BJP headquarters in Bangalore, Mr. Shettar indicated that efforts were on to cover the remaining Assembly constituencies in the second list.
The BJP had announced its first list comprising names of candidates for 140 constituencies of the total 224 in the State on Friday.
He made it clear that Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi was certain to campaign in Karnataka. However, his campaign dates were yet to be finalised. Earlier, addressing the programme, Mr. Shettar, who is leading the BJP in the Assembly polls, expressed confidence that the party would retain power in the State by winning a majority of the Assembly seats.
He claimed that despite the internal differences, the BJP government had done well.
Describing the BJP as a party with a strong organisational background with a wide base, he said it was not possible for any political force to destabilise the party. Taking a dig at the Congress, he said the BJP was not an individual or family-based party. In contrast, the Congress was solely dependent on the Nehru family and the party cannot exist without them, he said.
Speaking on the occasion, the former Chief Minister and BJP national vice-president D.V. Sadananda Gowda assured people of the State that the BJP would give a scam-free administration if voted to power again.
