BJP’s Renuka Sudeep wins CMC byelection

Renuka Sudeep of the Bharatiya Janata Party has won the byelection for Ward 15 of the Bhadravathi City Municipal Council (CMC) by 1,158 votes against Manjula Subbanna of the Congress.

The counting of votes was held at the premises of the CMC in Bhadravathi on Wednesday. Of the 2,126 votes polled,

Ms. Sudeep bagged 1,598 votes while 440 votes were polled in favour of the Congress candidate.

Bharathi, Janata Dal(Secular) candidate, stood third by securing 178 votes.

Ms. Sudeep’s father-in-law V. Kadiresh is also a member of the Bhadravathi municipal council.

The byelection was held owing to the resignation of K.R. Shambhavi, who was elected on a JD(S) ticket.

BJP activists celebrated the victory by busting crackers and distributing sweets.

The polling for the byelection was held on July 10. Tahsildar Tushar Hosur supervised the counting process.

With this, the tally of BJP in the 35-member CMC has risen to three.

The JD(S), which is in power, has 22 members, the Congress six and there are four independent members.
