Plea for help:BJP youth wing leaders with the carton sent to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, requesting her to solve the Cauvery water crisis, in Mandya.

Requesting Jayalalithaa, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, to solve the decades-old Cauvery water crisis through dialogue, while safeguarding the interests of farmers in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, the local youth wing of BJP has sent ‘bagina’ to the Tamil Nadu CM, whose native district is Mandya.

The carton containing two bamboo trays (‘mora’), green bangles, vermillion and turmeric powder, ‘nava dhanya’, betel nuts and other items were couriered on Thursday and may reach Ms. Jayalalithaa’s residence ‘Veda Nilayam’ at Poes Garden by Saturday evening, local BJP leaders said.

According to BJP leader C.T. Manjunatha, a letter stressing upon the urgent need for a solution had also been kept inside the box.

The ongoing Cauvery water dispute has been causing trouble to Kannada-speaking people in Tamil Nadu and Tamil-speaking people in Karnataka. Moreover, business activities, mainly the film industry and the public transport department, often bear the brunt of the problem when protests are held.

Bengaluru needs at least 30 tmcft of water for drinking purposes. The construction of a reservoir across the Cauvery at Mekedatu could both solve the crisis and provide water to the parched areas along the Cauvery in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, the BJP leaders said. They said that the ‘bagina’ was sent to the CM on the occasion of ‘Varalakshmi Puja’.
