Seeking disciplinary action against Union Minister of State for Skill Development Anantkumar Hegde for his statements against Kannada writers, State BJP Yuva Morcha vice-president Bheemashankar Patil has urged State unit president B.S. Yeddyurappa to seek an apology from the Minister.

In a letter to Mr. Yeddyurappa, he said: “Mr. Hegde must be told that Kannada writers have not produced their works for sites. We cannot tolerate insult of those who have spent their lives for Kannada lanaguge and its development for the sake of pleasing the party and the party high command.”

Stating that Mr. Hegde was not bothered about Karnataka, he said one should not forget that he was the son of soil before considering himself a proud son of the nation.

Mr. Patil said that such statements would not augur well for the party ahead of the elections and depict the party as being anti-Kannadiga. He pointed out that Kannada legends — Kittur Rani Chennamma and Onake Obavva — were insulted on social media site, which was managed by those belonging to BJP.

“There is a campaign in social media in which thousands of Kannadigas are saying that they will not vote for BJP. Hence, you should immediately ask Mr. Hegde not to comment on Kannada language and writers.”
