BJP workers protesting against Tipu Jayanti held

Some members of district unit of Bharatiya Janata Party were taken into custody after they opposed Tipu Jayanti celebrations in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Friday.

About 40 to 50 BJP workers under the leadership of former BJP MLA Raghupati Bhat and district unit president Mattar Ratnakar Hegde shouted slogans against Tipu Jayanti and State government. They were immediately taken into custody by the police, who were present in large numbers.

Speaking to presspersons, Mr. Bhat questioned the need for the celebrations under such tight security.

Meanwhile, the Tipu Jayanti celebrations began with the beating of ‘Daphs’ by the chief guests including Vinay Kumar Sorake, Kaup MLA.
