Seeking action against police officials responsible for assaulting BJP’s Mysuru City Yuva Morcha president Gokul Goverdhan, former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa accused the State government of allegedly converting police stations into ‘Congress offices’.

He accused the sub-inspector of Nazarbad police station of not only threatening Mr. Goverdhan and his accomplices of dire consequences, but also thrashing them after turning the lights out to avoid the act being captured on CCTV cameras.

Mr. Yeddyurappa said Mr. Goverdhan, who is also an advocate, went to the police station on Sunday evening to lodge a complaint against a land grabber, but the official had abused him using foul language and detained him.

A large number of BJP workers turned up at the station on Sunday night and managed to secure the release of Mr. Goverdhan and his accomplices.

Mr. Yeddyurappa said the party will lodge a complaint against the official with senior police officials and bring the matter to the notice of Home Minister R. Ramalinga Reddy.

Meanwhile, city police officials said they had booked two cases in the matter including one lodged by the sub-inspector of Nazarbad police against Mr. Goverdhan and his accomplices. They said appropriate action would be taken after the inquiry was completed.

Meanwhile, the Mysuru Bar Association staged a demonstration in front of the Law Court complex in Mysuru on Monday to protest against the high-handedness of the police.
