BJP wins Kotekar, Vitla town panchayats in Dakshina Kannada

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been elected to lead the newly constituted Kotekar and Vitla town panchayats in Dakshina Kannada district.

The results of the elections conducted to the panchayats on April 24 were announced on April 27.

Of 17 wards under Kotekar Town Panchayat in Mangaluru Taluk, the BJP bagged nine seats followed by the Congress with four seats. The Communist Party of India (Marxists) and the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) shared one seat each and independents, who were actually rebel candidates of the BJP, won two seats.

In Vitla Town Panchayat, Bantwal Taluk, of 18 seats, the BJP won 12 seats and the Congress bagged six seats.

Vitla Town Panchayat recorded 73.71 per cent polling, while Kotekar Town Panchayat recorded 67.27 per cent voting on Sunday.
