BJP to launch campaign against illegal sand extraction

In a bid to build on the public concern over the illegal sand extraction mafia trying to run over the Deputy Superintendent of Police with a truck, the Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party has decided to launch a campaign against illegal sand extraction in the Cauvery river basin.

A decision was taken at a meeting of the party’s highest decision-making body of the State core committee in Bangalore on Monday.

According to sources, leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council K.S. Eshwarappa will visit Nagamangala on Tuesday to speak to DySP Savitha Hugar, who survived the murder attempt.

The party believes that powerful political forces are backing the illegal sand extraction mafia .
