April 03, 2013 01:54 am | Updated 01:54 am IST - Belgaum:

The State unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party will launch its ‘Vijay Sankalp Yatra’ here on Thursday. This will also mark the commencement of full-fledged campaigning in the north Karnataka region, including Belgaum district.

Apart from the party’s new State president Pralhad Joshi, MP; Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar, Deputy Chief Ministers K.S. Eshwarappa and R. Ashok and national general secretary H.N. Ananth Kumar, all BJP Ministers and legislators from the region would participate in the yatra. Announcing this, Agriculture Minister and district in-charge Umesh V. Katti said here on Tuesday that the yatra was conceived with the objective of informing people about the achievements of the BJP government, motivating workers to work for the success of the party, and appealing to people to vote for the party in Assembly elections.

Mr. Katti said that though the party witnessed internal bickering for long, it still took up several development works. The establishment of the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha in Belgaum was one of its major achievements.

He said that the BJP continued to fight against corruption by giving more powers to the Lokayukta to take up cases against Ministers and legislators. Suresh C. Angadi and Prabhakar Kore, MPs, and Belgaum city unit psresident M.B. Zirali were present.
