BJP to hold protests against ‘anti-people’ policies of MCC

Condemns excessive solid waste management cess

April 04, 2017 12:14 am | Updated 12:14 am IST - MANGALURU

The BJP Mangaluru unit will launch a series of protests against the city corporation’s alleged anti-people policies, including irregular water supply, excessive solid waste management cess on small entrepreneurs and the like, from Wednesday.

Monappa Bhandary, former MLC, in a press release here said that the Mayor’s decision to supply water for two days in a week despite sufficient water being available in reservoirs has been unilateral. It was taken without taking into confidence the Opposition BJP members in the Council only to help lobbies of private water tankers, he alleged.

The Opposition party also questioned the MCC’s move to club solid waste management cess with trade licence and said it would affect small entrepreneurs. Hike in trade licence fee coupled with the cess would adversely affect businessmen, who are already bogged down by several factors, such as increased building rent and electricity charges, Mr. Bhandary said. BJP city north unit will hold the protest at Surathkal junction at 10 a.m. on April 5 and at Kavoor junction at 10 a.m. on April 7. The south unit will hold protests near A.B. Shetty Circle at 10 a.m. on April 6 and at Kadri Mallikatte junction at 10 a.m. on April 7. The party will hold a protest in front of MCC office at Lalbagh on April 12 at 10 a.m., he said.
