Taking serious exception to AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh’s remark that the Bharatiya Janata Party may instigate communal violence to consolidate its dwindling support base, the BJP on Wednesday said it would file a complaint with the Director-General and Inspector-General of Police against Mr. Singh.
Announcing this at a press conference in Bangalore convened to brief them on the meeting of BJP leaders on organisational elections, State party general secretary C.T. Ravi said such remarks only raises doubts on whether Mr. Singh had come to Bangalore with a “conspiracy” to destabilise communal harmony in the State.
He said the Congress had resorted to destabilising communal harmony in the State on several occasions for political gain.
Ridiculing him, Mr. Ravi said after losing ground in his native State of Madhya Pradesh, Mr. Singh was trying to retain his place in the Congress by levelling such baseless allegations.
‘Mask falls off’
Taking serious exception to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s decision to allow Foreign Direct Investment in multi-brand retail in the State, he said with this decision, the Chief Minister’s mask of being a socialist has fallen off.
Alleging that FDI in multi-brand retail was detrimental to the interests of small traders, he said the BJP would launch a struggle against the decision.
Referring to Minister for Higher Education R.V. Deshpande’s decision to review the permission granted by the previous BJP government to set up new private universities, Mr. Ravi who was the Higher Education Minister when the Bills were adopted, said there was nothing wrong in such a review as the Bills that had been adopted by both the Houses of the State legislature provided for it.
