The Bharatiya Janata Party has decided to constitute district-level teams of its leaders to tour all the drought-affected villages and submit a report to the government on whether drought relief measures are being taken up effectively, and to identify the areas which require more attention.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the party State office-bearers held here on Thursday under the leadership of party State unit president K. S. Eshwarappa.
Briefing mediapersons after the meeting, party State general secretary C.T. Ravi said such a decision had been taken in the wake of media reports that officials were misleading the government on drought-relief measures by trying to paint a positive picture and taking Ministers and the Chief Minister to only those areas where drought-relief measures had been effectively implemented.
Prominent leaders in every district would tour the villages in 10 to 12 teams from April 25 to 30 and submit reports on May 1. While the district-level reports would be submitted to district in-charge ministers through party district presidents, report on State-level issues would be submitted to Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda through the party State president, he said.
Expressing dissatisfaction over the Opposition Congress leaders accusing the government of failure to effectively tackle drought, he appealed to them to desist from using drought as a political weapon. “Drought relief is an issue in which all of us, including the Opposition parties, have equal responsibilities,” he said and appealed to all the four Union Ministers from Karnataka to use their political clout to get sufficient aid from the Centre.
