The Congress has condemned the Bharatiya Janata Party for making false statements, claiming credit for the cooking gas supply project launched by the Centre.

Speaking to the presspersons here on Monday, Congress leader Govindraj Harivan said the BJP was making such false claims to hide its failures during the five years of rule in the Hubli-Dharwad Muncipal Corporation as well as in the State.

Mr. Harivan said the Centre had launched the project to supply Liquefied Natural Gas for cooking purpose through pipeline (from Dabol to Bangalore) to every house in the country. A sub-pipeline of this project would also pass through Hubli-Dharwad, which would streamline supply of cooking gas in the twin cities in the days to come.

However, the BJP has been claiming credit for the project.

There were enough evidences to prove that the LNG project was conceived and launched by the Union government under the leadership of AIICC chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Veerappa Moily. But the BJP had made a promise to the people of the twin cities in its election manifesto that it would supply cooking gas to every house. This is a shameless act, the leaders said.

Even the 24x7 water supply scheme was conceived and launched by S.M. Krishna while he was the Chief Minister, they claimed. How could the BJP leaders claim credit for the projects taken up by the Congress? he asked.

Pralhad Joshi, MP, and the then Mayor Veeranna Savadi had held a press meet in April, 2009 and declared that drinking water would be supplied in the twin cities everyday by 2010.

But now it’s 2013 and people of many wards in the twin cities are still getting water just once in a week.
