Terming the attitude of the government with respect to the doctors’ strike as “irresponsible”, the Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party members staged a walkout in the Legislative Assembly on Thursday.

Raising the issue, Leader of the Opposition Jagadish Shettar urged the government to hold consultations with the representatives of striking doctors at the earliest in the interest of suffering patients. Already, 25 persons had reportedly died in the State due to lack of availability of private medical services, he said.

He demanded that either the government should hold talks with the striking doctors and convince them to resume duty or make alternative arrangements for taking care of those requiring medical need.

BJP member C.T. Ravi remarked that patients were paying the price for the “ego battle” between the government and striking doctors. Another BJP member Vishveshwara Hegde Kageri alleged that the government was in a fix due to Health Minister Ramesh Kumar, who was stubborn about the passage of the Bill without major modifications.
