BJP members submit a memorandum to the government to remove encroachments on nalas in Belagavi north constituency on wednesday.

BJP leaders and workers took out a rally in Belagavi on Wednesday, seeking removal of illegal buildings built on top of streams and stormwater drains in Belagavi city.

There are several nalas and drains in the city that were built to drain out flood waters. But some influential persons have built houses or commercial properties over these structures. If water does not flow in them properly, Belagavi will suffer during excess rains. Officials should take strict action against these vested interests and demolish their houses and remove encroachments, they said.

They alleged that city corporation officials had acted under duress and did not mark any nala in the map of Belagavi north constituency. This does not match with the comprehensive development plans of Belagavi urban development authority that marks several nalas in the north constituency. The Deputy Commissioner should order a fresh survey of the city to end such anomalies, they said.

Belagavi urban district president Rajendra Harkuni, general secretary Rajkumar Topannanavar, Kiran Jadhav, Deepa Kudchi and others were present.
