Members of the BJP’s SC Morcha on Wednesday resolved to appeal to the State and Union governments to provide tax exemption to engineering graduates from the Scheduled Castes who wish to take up entrepreneurship.
The tax exemption should be similar to what is being given to industries in the special economic zone (SEZ) and information technology sector, said morcha president A. Narayanswamy, former Minister.
The resolution was adopted at a seminar organised here on Wednesday to discuss the challenges being faced by the community and also to come out with resolutions.
Mr. Narayanswamy said this resolution along with several other demands aimed at getting more benefits for the community would be submitted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “We will meet the Prime Minister in Delhi after the State Executive Committee meeting slated for two days from August 2 ,” he said. The demands would be submitted through the Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Thaawar Chand Gehlot and Ministers from Karnataka Ananth Kumar and D.V. Sadananda Gowda, he said.
During the seminar, members suggested that the government ensure reservation in jobs in the private sector, relax norms for allotment of land to Dalit farmers and provide reservation in contract works and supply tenders. Some members demanded a maintenance board for SC hostels, Navodaya schools and Kendriya Vidyalayas exclusively for SC students, free education and increase in unit cost of all housing schemes.
The seminar was inaugurated by the former Minister Govind Karjol.
