Senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh on Thursday strongly defended Defence Minister A.K. Antony on the issue pertaining to the killing of five Indian soldiers along the Line of Control and accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of politicising a national security issue.

Mr. Digvijay Singh described the BJP’s stand on the issue as “unfortunate”.

Condemning the killing of Indian soldiers, he said that the heinous act would be reciprocated strongly by India.

“A decision, however, will be taken after due consideration at the highest level,” he added.

He said that the Union government should not be forced, as it was time for all political parties to get together and fight an external threat.

The former Chief Minister S.M. Krishna said that it was “most preposterous” for anybody to make an allegation that the Congress had adopted a soft stand on the issue of killing of Indian soldiers.
