With only five months left for the Lok Sabha polls and cheered by the Assembly poll results of four northern States on Sunday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Karnataka is now busy consolidating its vote bank.
The party’s Karnataka unit, in its official website, appealed the voters in the name of is prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, to register their names in the voters’ list. Quoting Mr. Modi, the website appeals to the electorate to register as a voter in the Election Commission’s monthlong national drive for voter registration.
Party workers are also going from door-to-door, verifying whether residents are registered voters. If they are not registered, they are providing registration forms and promising to collect the completed ones. They are also distributing booklets that detail the contributions of the local legislator, corporator and the Lok Sabha member of the constituency.
Registration formsKiran, a volunteer, who was distributing registration forms in Tyagarajanagar area on Monday, said a team of volunteers were visiting every household. “We are also providing the residents the numbers of local workers, who will solve problems being faced by the residents on a priority,” he said. “We will deliver the voter identification cards ‘personally’ to the electorate once the process is completed,” he added.
Eager to helpSpeaking to The Hindu , State BJP spokesperson S. Prakash said the party took up booth-wise campaigning to register voters. Though Saturday was the last day of the campaign, party workers would help the voters to register their names, if contacted. “Over 5,000 workers are actively participating in the campaign,” he said.
