BJP may take up denotification issue with new Governor

It is a fit case to approach Governor and seek Chief Minister’s prosecution: Joshi

With its veteran leader from Gujarat Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala taking oath as the new Governor of Karnataka on Monday, the Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party hinted that it may take up the issue of denotification of land acquired for the formation of Arkavathi Layout in Bangalore with him, and seek prosecution of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

“ Prima facie evidence suggests that the denotification issue is a fit case to approach the Governor and seek the Chief Minister’s prosecution,” BJP State president Pralhad Joshi told presspersons in Bangalore after a meeting of the party’s highest decision-making body — the State core committee.

“We are yet to decide on whether to approach the Governor regarding the denotification. However, we are in the process of collecting all the necessary documents. We have even asked the party’s legal committee, led by former Law Minister S. Suresh Kumar, to provide all the necessary documents,” he said.

A prominent BJP leader, on condition of anonymity, said the party was keen to take up the issue with the new Governor. “However, instead of doing it immediately, we want to proceed with it after a couple of months,” he said.

Teams to study rain damage

Meanwhile, accusing the government of failing to respond to people’s in the districts of Raichur, Gulbarga and Yadgir, which have been affected by heavy rain, the core committee has decided to depute a team comprising Mr. Joshi and Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Jagadish Shettar on Tuesday to study the ground-level situation.

Another team of party leaders comprising national vice-president B.S. Yeddyurappa and Shobha Karandlaje, MP, will tour these districts from September 10 to 12. Another team, led by Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council K.S. Eshwarappa, will tour Gadag and surrounding areas.

He said the members of the party’s State core committee would meet BJP national president Amit Shah during his visit to Gorata village in Bidar on September 17 to hold consultations with him on finalising different programmes to be taken up by the party to strengthen its organisation.
