The former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa has claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Janata Dal (Secular) have forged a secret alliance to capture power and their selection of candidates is indicative of this.
Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, Mr. Yeddyurappa said that he would come out with a list of constituencies where the JD(S) and BJP had an understanding and put up weak candidates against each other.
Several BJP leaders had stated that they would form the government with JD(S) support; this goes to prove that the BJP was resigned to its fate in the elections to the Assembly.
He said that the BJP was spreading rumours of his return to the party, simply to sow confusion among his supporters. “There is no question of my return to the BJP; it is a closed chapter.” Mr. Yeddyurappa also denied that he had made a statement that the KJP would support the Congress. He claimed this was the work of his detractors.
He said that after the elections, he would try to bring together all the regional parties in the country on one platform to present a viable third frontat the national level.
To a question, Mr. Yeddyurappa said he did not believe in opinion polls and only in the verdict of the people.
