March 06, 2014 10:11 am | Updated May 19, 2016 06:35 am IST - BANGALORE:

Within hours of the announcement of the schedule for the Lok Sabha polls on Wednesday, the Bharatiya Janata Party top leaders had meetings and finalised the names of candidates for at least 21 constituencies. The names were discussed at a meeting of the party State election committee. A meeting of the party’s highest decision-making body of the core committee too was held prior to the election committee meeting to discuss various issues.

The former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar told reporters after the election committee meeting that the names of candidates for 21 constituencies were discussed. He noted that these were constituencies where there was only one aspirant. He reiterated that the party’s State leaders would visit Delhi along with the list of these names for a meeting of the party central election committee on March 8. Though Arun Jaitley was supposed to come here to attend these meetings on Wednesday, his visit was cancelled following the announcement of the poll schedule.
