Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council K.S. Eshwarappa has said that the Bharatiya Janata Party would continue its struggle till the Congress government handed over the investigations into the alleged suicides of two Deputy Superintendents of Police M.K. Ganapathy and Kallappa Handibag to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). He also expressed apprehensions that the State’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) could prolong investigations and may not enjoy a free hand into the cases.

Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, he criticised Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for repeatedly making irresponsible statements on the serious issue of alleged suicide by M.K. Ganapathy. Mr. Siddaramaiah was not willing to ask K.J. George, who was named by Ganapathy hours before he allegedly committed suicide. “Mr. Siddaramaiah ruled out Mr. George’s resignation even after the Madikeri court ordered the police to register a FIR against Mr. George and two senior IPS officers on Monday under the pretext of not receiving an official copy of the court order,” he said. It was later in the evening on Monday that Mr. George resigned from the Cabinet.

He charged that it was clear that the Congress government headed by Mr. Siddaramaiah was protecting Mr. George. “I am sure this government will continue to protect Mr. George and other accused till the court decides on their bail. The Congress government has been protecting unscrupulous persons in power and those enjoying their patronage,” he alleged and criticised him for adjourning the Legislature Session sine die, even though it was to end on July 30.

But, the BJP wanted investigations in both the cases to be handed over to the CBI, said Mr.Eshwarappa and proceeded to Hulgund of Raibag taluk and Murgod of Saundatti taluk to meet the parents of Kallappa and his in-laws and handover Rs. 5 lakh to the bereaved family.
