BJP, Congress supporting corporate houses: CPI(M)

February 02, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:47 am IST - BALLARI:

The Communist Party of India – Marxist (CPI-M) has accused the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party of shirking their responsibilities towards the welfare of the people and supporting corporate houses.

S. Prasannakumar, State secretariat member of the party, told presspersons here on Sunday that the ruling BJP and the Opposition Congress at the Centre had failed to pass on the benefits of the fall in the prices of crude oil. Also, the ruling Congress and the Opposition BJP in the State had failed to work for the welfare of the people, he alleged.

“These parties have joined hands in not taking up the cause of the people. The National Democratic Alliance government is not keen to pass on the benefits of the fall in the prices of crude oil, mainly to protect the interests of the Ambanis, and the Congress, as the Opposition, has not been raising the issue.

At the State-level, the ruling Congress has not been distributing BPL cards. As many as 38 lakh applications are pending. The opposition BJP has failed to expose the government. Both these political parties are talking about other issues to divert attention from the issues concerning the people,” Mr. Prasanna Kumar alleged.

Referring to the charge and counter charge between the Congress and the BJP over the Arkavathi denotification issue, he dared these parties to place the documents in their possession. The BJP had also failed to pressure the government to roll back bus fares.

Mr. Prasannakumar criticised the Siddaramaiah government for reframing the rules for the Land Acquisition Act, following the changes effected by the NDA government through an Ordinance, which according to him, would only benefit the corporate sector and jeopardise the interests of the people.
