The Economic and Chartered Accountants’ Cell of the State unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party will submit a wish list to Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, who will present the Union Budget shortly.
To finalise the suggestions, the cell held an interaction with experts from different fields on Wednesday at the party office.
According to the former director of the Institute for Social and Economic Change R.S. Deshpande, the former Finance Minister P. Chidamabaram was “not sincere to the cause”. He observed that the situation had slipped out of the hands of those managing the country’s economy during the UPA government’s rule. It was a challenge for the new government to rebuild the economy, he noted, while expressing concern that there was a slump in growth and various deficits were increasing.
Mr. Deshpande called for an overhaul of the tax administration and boost in investments by motivating individuals to invest whatever money they had.
He specifically advocated increasing FDI and improving efficiency in the energy sector through various measures, including privatisation. He also called for privatisation of public sector enterprises in addition to reforming labour laws. Mr. Deshpande also suggested boosting agricultural trade for revival of the economy.
Meanwhile, in its recent newsletter, the cell mooted various steps, including corporatisation of the Indian Railways to not only implement major projects such as introducing bullet train, but also to upgrade the Railways.
Cell convener S. Vishwanath Bhat, BJP co-treasurer S. Keshav Prasad and party media cell co-convener A.L. Shivakumar were present.
