Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State president B.S. Yeddyurappa has assured teachers of implementing the recommendations of the Kumar Naik report to set right discrepancies in salaries of Pre-University teachers within 24 hours of his party assuming power in the next Assembly elections.

Speaking to presspersons here on Thursday, Mr. Yeddyurappa said that the BJP will also see that Physical Instructors get an opportunity to serve as head masters. His other assurances to the teachers included simplifying transfer rules for couples who are teachers, launching a special housing scheme and an insurance scheme.

Mr. Yeddyurappa, who was here to campaign for his party candidate from the Karnataka West Teachers Constituency M. Nagaraj, said that Janata Dal(S) candidate and MLC Basavaraj Horatti though had raised several issues related to teachers, had failed to do anything for them when he was in power. Over the years, he had gained expertise in creating problems for teachers on his own and fighting for their redressal. All that he has been doing all these years is petty politics in the name of teachers, he added.

Mr. Yeddyurappa also expressed confidence that the BJP candidate would win the elections in the first round itself. He said that Mr. Horatti’s defeat was imminent in the last elections itself but he won due to a division in the BJP votes.
