March 04, 2015 06:27 pm | Updated 06:28 pm IST - Tumakuru

Home Minister, K. J. George on Wednesday said that the leaders of Bharatiya Janata Party and Janata Dal (Secular) did not have moral right to demand his resigantion on the grounds of incidents of rape, murder and other crimes in the state.

Speaking to reporters after inaugurating the newly constructed police station building at Badavanahalli in Madhugiri taluk, Mr. George said that rapes, murders, and other crimes had taken place even during the BJP and JDS tenure and hence there was no need for him to resign over the issue.

He said " there was no firing or any major crimes in the state after I took over as Home Minister."

Speaking about the Shivamogga incident, he said all the accused had been arrested and there was peace in the district. He said that he has also given direction to the police to take action against those who disrupt peace in the district.

He said that he is taking measures to strengthen the police department by providing necessary infrastructure and filling up the vacant posts.

He said the recruitment of police personnel to the department was in the final stage and would be completed shortly.

He said 11,500 police quarters will be built in the state out of which 300 quarters will be built in Tumakuru district.

Meanwhile, Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs T. B. Jayachandra said that the tanks in drought-hit village of Badavanahalli will be filled from Yettinahole project.

He alleged that the previous state governments had failed to take up the Hemavathi canal widening work. Hence Tumakuru district was not getting its share of water from Hemavathi river. He said after Siddaramiah took over as Chief Minister, the canal widening work had started and after the work is completed Tumakuru district will get its share of water from Hemavathi river.
