Public demand: Members of Shivamogga district BJP unit (labourers wing) taking out a procession against irregularities in sand distribution in Shivamogga on Monday.

The activists of Bharatiya Janata Party district unit staged a protest in the city on Monday demanding that the State government take necessary measures to ensure proper supply of sand to the people in the district.

Addressing the protest meet, Ayanur Manjunath, former member of the Rajya Sabha, said construction activities including the public infrastructure upgradation work in the district have received a serious setback owing to the sand crisis. Owing to the delay in distribution of sand, people are being forced to purchase it illegally at inflated prices, he said.

The protesters submitted a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner in this regard. The president of BJP district unit Rudre Gowda took part in the protest.
