Birth anniversaries of social reformers

Buddha Jayanti, Basava Jayanti and Ambedkar Jayanti will be celebrated in Narona village of Aland taluk in Kalaburagi district on May 15.

D.G. Sagar, State convener of the Karnataka State Dalit Sangharsh Samiti, told presspersons on Tuesday that the birth anniversaries of these three social reformers should not be confined to a particular religion.

Resemblance

The teachings of Buddha had a strong resemblance to the teachings of 12th century social reformer Basaveshwara and Dr. Ambedkar.

Mr. Sagar said that the reformers fought against social evils such as caste system to bring equality.

Aland MLA B.R. Patil would inaugurate the celebration.

Kalaburagi Rural MLA G. Ramakrishna, Gyan Prakash Swami of Urilinga Peddi Mutt of Mysuru and B. Shivakumar, Inspector-general of Police (North Eastern Range) would be the chief guests.
