Wildlife photographer-siblings from Dharwad will organise a three-day “Photography Exhibition on Birds” in the city with the twin objectives of showcasing their talents in photography and also creating awareness about birds whose existence has been threatened due to certain various developments.
The three-day exhibition will be organised at the Anand Art Gallery beside Adarsha Hotel on College Road from Friday. It would be open for visitors from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on all the three days. There would be about 300 exhibits in the gallery to which entry is free, announced photographers Shashi Sali and his sister Shobha Sali at a press conference here on Wednesday.
Mr. Shashi Sali said that the exhibits are photographs of different species of Indian birds which are native to the forests in and around Dandeli of Uttara Kannada district.
The two photographers went on a photography tour from Dandeli covering various sites where birds are known to nestle and photographed around 150 birds of various species. They have also photographed birds in various reserved forests and wildlife sanctuaries and safaris in the country.
They said that they would be displaying their best photographs, which, however, would not be for sale but only viewing, to know about the rich bird wealth that has come under threat due to various reasons over a period of time.
Similar exhibitions in Dharwad, Bengaluru and Mysuru had attracted a large number of visitors, particularly schoolchildren, who were escorted by their teachers to the venue. Their visit to these exhibition venues turned out to be a sort of a brief study tour during which the young children learnt about the beautiful world of birds, many of which could not be spotted in urban centres easily.
He said that photographing birds was not an easy task as it required very high degree of patience and dedication to the pro-fession and love for the art. Though he was essentially a commercial photo-grapher, he developed keen interest in wildlife photography, particularly about birds, in the last few years and so did his sister. The main objective behind organising these exhibitions on birds was to share what they have captured from nature, he remarked.
