The District administration of Bijapur, which was the worst-ravaged by the recent rains, has demanded Rs. 40 Crore from the State Government towards compensation package for those affected by the natural calamity in the District.

In its report submitted to the government, the administration pointed out that seventy thousand houses were damaged in the five taluks of Bijapur District in the rain fury, official sources said on Thursday.

“So far a compensation of Rs 25 crore has been given to the affected families”, the sources said.

District Incharge Minister Govind Karjol, who reviewed the relief measures here, later told reporters that a special committee led by the Deputy Commissioner has been formed to identify land to relocate the 30 worst-affected villages.
