A day after confusion over the sharing of power among Congress leaders in Bidar zilla panchayat, the party has clarified that the president and vice president would be changed after 30 months.
Just after Bharatbai Sherikar and Prakash Patil were elected president and vice president in Bidar on Monday, there was speculation that they had agreed to give up their posts after two and a half years. Geetha Pandit Chidri, another contender for the post, had maintained that they had signed an understanding. She cited district in-charge minister Umashree and Congress MLAs as witnesses. However, Ms. Sherikar denied it.
On Tuesday, District Congress Committee president Khaji Arshed Ali issued a release saying the president and vice president had been elected for the first 30 months. He said there was an agreement among leaders to swap positions after that. The duo would resign and another set of zilla panchayat members would take their place, he said.
He also clarified that the tie-up with the Janata Dal (Secular) was only limited to the zilla panchayat and the two parties would work for the development of the district.
