Regional Commissioner Harsha Gupta has demanded a comprehensive report on the delay in completion of underground drainage and drinking water supply works in Bidar city.
Mr. Gupta, who inspected the works on Sunday, told officers of the Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development Finance Corporation to submit a report on what caused a five- year delay. He pointed out that the Asian Development Bank funded work to build an underground drainage system for the mountain-top town and to provide 24X7 drinking water supply system, and the work had to be completed by 2012-13. But they are being dragged on and the people are put to great inconvenience. “`How long can the people tolerate this?’’ he questioned, while on a tour of the old city to inspect the works.
He told Mallikarjun Shambhu, assistant executive engineer, KUIDFC, to ensure that the job was completed in a few days and to repair roads immediately to stop the dust from rising from the cut roads. The cost of temporary repair of roads was included in the project, the RC said.
The UGD and water supply works , estimated to cost Rs. 140 crore, include building a sewage treatment plant in Gornalli village and laying a network of underground sewerage pipes, a water purification plant and a series of overhead tanks. The project, approved in 208-09, was started in 2011 and was expected to be completed by 2013. Mr. Gupta reminded these details to some officials and reprimanded them.
