There are strong influences of the Kakatiya style of architecture on Bidar fort, Anuradha Reddy, head of Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage, Hyderabad, said in Bidar on Wednesday.

She was speaking at ‘The Glory That was Bidar’, an international seminar on Deccan Heritage, organised by the district administration and the Hyderabad Karnataka Region Development Board. She said that Kakatiyas were reportedly the first to build the original parts of the Bidar fort.

Sajjad Shahid, writer, said that medieval kings retained temples of the earlier kings in order to assert influence on the people.

“That is why most temples of medieval era remain protected. We should remain focused on this fact, while studying the history of the Deccan in the medieval era,” Mr. Shahid said.

Kalim Ulla, conservationist, urged authorities to use students and organise Shrama Dana movements to protect and preserve monuments.
