Bidar connection to ‘Desert Storm' rally

Bidar-based Jyoti Yerolkar, a doctor with the Indian Air Force, is participating in the ‘Desert Storm 2011' car rally that started from Ahmedabad on Tuesday. She is the first woman from the armed forces take part in this rally.

The rally that started in Ahmedabad will pass through Bhuj, Naliya, Jaisalmer, Bikaner and Jaipur before ending in Delhi on February 27. The Sky Hawks team of the IAF will be one of the several teams that will travel for over 2,400 km across north India, sources said.

Dr. Jyoti, who joined the IAF as a Flight Lieutenant four years ago, was promoted as a Squadron Leader. She has worked in Air Force hospitals in Yelahanka and Kanpur, besides the Air Force Academy.

Dr. Jyoti did her schooling in Bidar and completed her postgraduate course in medicine in the U.S. She loves driving and has a taste for adventure.

She is married and has two daughters.

Her brother Amar Yerolkar runs a hospital and two nursing schools in Bidar.
