Bid to reduce number of dropouts after SSLC

The Department of Pre-University Education has asked lecturers to make all efforts to ensure that government school students do not drop out after class 10.

Lectures have been asked to use social media to reach out to students, put up flex banners outside their colleges and even visit the students’ family to encourage them to continue with her/his education.

This is part of the enrolment drive of the department to ensure that there are no dropouts. The department has asked principals of all government PU colleges to collect information of students who complete SSLC in government schools in their locality. The department plans to send bulk messages to students who pass the SSLC examination. The department also plans to reward principals and lecturers who get maximum number of students enrolled.

The department has also asked colleges to display photographs and marks of the students outside the college premises and also issue advertisement in the local cable channels. While department officials said the move aims to set an example to students, education experts point out that it would increase the obsession for marks.
