Even as the results of the “special round” of counselling for students who cleared the II Pre University Course (PUC) examinations were announced here on Wednesday, students who participated in the previous two rounds of counselling have cried foul.
They alleged that more seats in reputed colleges were available for the supplementary students rather than those who had secured higher ranks in the Common Entrance Test (CET).
A case in point is the Ambedkar Institute of Technology, Bangalore.
A parent, requesting anonymity, told The Hindu that in the college — both for the aided and unaided courses — the number of seats available in the special round was more than the number available even during the extended second round of counselling conducted for the large number of vacant engineering seats.
During the extended second round, there were seven and two seats in the aided and unaided courses of Ambedkar Institute of Technology, respectively.
However, this number rose to six and 43 during the special round. Among the 43 seats are those in courses such as computer science.
‘Too late’
“We waited for two rounds of counselling before settling for another college. When we saw that the number of seats in the college had increased for the supplementary candidates, we questioned the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA).
The authority simply said that the seats were surrendered late,” the parent said and added that the delay had ensured that the higher ranked students would not get seats in top ranked colleges.
Delay
Meanwhile, an official from the college admitted to the delay, saying that the management decided to surrender the seats to the KEA (for the unaided courses) only on Tuesday “due to an internal issue”.
Seats
KEA said that 1,205 engineering seats have been allotted to eligible supplementary candidates. Supplementary and Diploma CET students, whose seat allotment results were also announced on Wednesday, have been asked to report to colleges before 4 p.m. on August 12.
