Better facilities for ration cards sought

BJP’s Backward Classes Morcha stages dharna in front of taluk office

Members of the Backward Classes Morcha of the Bharatiya Janata Party staged a dharna in front of the taluk office here recently demanding proper facilities for distributing ration cards to people.

Speaking on the occasion, Kota Srinivas Poojary, MLC, said that there was lot of rush for procuring ration cards and this made it difficult for women and senior citizens to stand in long queues throughout the day.

Hence a separate queue for men and women should be introduced at the taluk office for getting ration cards.

The ration cards of many people had got cancelled when it was linked to the Voter’s ID and this should be solved.

Many of the people who wanted to convert their above the poverty line cards, which had been wrongly given to them, into below the poverty line cards, were struggling for the past one year.

So too, many people who had applied for new ration cards had not got them for the last 12 months.

Many a time, the staff of the Taluk Office lost their patience in dealing with the applicants for ration cards and behaved rudely with them.

In many cases, ration cards were not being distributed even when the applicants had followed all the procedures.

It was difficult for people from rural areas to come to the Taluk Office for this purpose only.

Hence, it would be better if the process of giving ration cards was shifted to the Gram Panchayats.

There were only two or three staff members, who had been assigned to deal with the ration cards in the Taluk Office, which was grossly inadequate.

At least 10 to 12 persons should be assigned this duty along with more computers, Mr. Poojary said.

B.N. Shankar Poojary, Kiran Kumar, Harish Ram, Rashmita Shetty, Sandhya Naik, Vasanth Shetty, Leela Amin, members of the Morcha, were present.
