He did his M.A. in Kannada from the University of Mysore, while in service.
Mr. Shetty told The Hindu that he was delighted at getting the award as his services as a teacher had been recognised.
“I am glad that my school which is in rural area had received recognition. I began my career as a headmaster. My father was also a teacher and being from a rural area, I had a vision on how a school should be run. I followed it. Among other things, we give importance to discipline and time-maintenance in our school,” he said.
Education officer at the Department of Public Instruction Ashok Kamath said Mr. Shetty would receive the award from President Pranab Mukherjee at the Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi on Teachers’ Day on September 5.
