Representatives of people’s organisations have blamed the lack of coordination between the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) and the Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Ltd. for the frequent power cuts in the district.

At a meeting organised by Manvantara Prakashana here on Monday, farmers’ leaders K. Srinivasa Gowda, Malur Ashwath and Abbani Shivanna said lack of power supply had affected farming. Students Federation of India leaders V. Ambarish and K. Vasudeva Reddy said students in rural areas were the worst hit. The meeting resolved to organise protests if the authorities failed to solve the problem in 10 days.

Responding the queries made by the participants, Bescom Assistant Executive Engineer V.M. Ramesh said the district was receiving only 60 MW to 80 MW power against the requirement of 145 MW. Expressing helplessness, he said the supply from the grid was not adequate.
